PETAR KIRILOV, Executive Winemaker
Wine runs deep in Petar’s family. At a very young age, he was helping his father craft wine in his family home in Bulgaria. His passion for winemaking led him to pursue his Master’s degree in Winemaking at the University of Food Technologies. After graduating and working in Bulgaria, Petar was selected for a prestigious internship at Truchard Vineyards in Napa Valley. Keen to develop his winemaking skills at an elite level, Petar took the plunge and left his home in Bulgaria for California’s most famous wine region, Napa Valley.
Petar brings over fifteen years of experience as a Winemaker and has thirteen vintages of creating luxury Napa and Sonoma wines. From grape to glass, Petar maintains a hands on approach to winemaking drawing out the best in each wine. Petar enjoys all our Meadowcroft wines, but if he had to choose a favorite he’d lean towards our Mt. Veeder Cabernet Sauvignon from Napa or one of our delicious Sonoma County Zinfandels. When he is not working at the winery, Petar enjoys spending time with his wife and young daughter as well as getting outside to run, swim, or even play soccer.
Tasting notes: Aromas of dark chocolate and ripe mountain blueberry explode in tones of black currant, sage, and exotic black pepper. It is smooth and tingling in acidity, yet also shows length and breadth.
Pairing: Excellent match for rosemary-pepper beef rib roast with porcini jus, pan-roasted veal chops with cabernet sauce, or a hanger steak with pommes frites.
