Confidences de Prieuré-Lichine Margaux 2019
HK$200.00 inc. tax
Type: Red wine
Vintage: 2019
Grapes: 80% Merlot 20% Cabernet Sauvignon
Description: The modernity and fruitiness of a Second Wine with a savoury and charming structure, recalling the elegance typical of Margaux. Produced from younger vines, it is harvested, vinified and aged with the same care as the Grand Cru.
The Priory of Cantenac was founded in the Romanesque period by the monks of the Abbey of Vertheuil. Its parish wines are renowned from the outset. With the support of the Bordeaux Pope Clément V in the 13th century, the church vineyards flourished. It will be necessary to wait until 1444 for a first official mention of the Cru.
Owner since 1951, Alexis Lichine renamed the estate in 1953 as Château Prieuré-Lichine. This period will prove to be the harbinger of the rebirth of this cru in Margaux. Outstanding winemaker and tireless peddler of the fame of Bordeaux wines in the world, the "Pope of Wine" Alexis Lichine died at the Prieuré on June 1, 1989
Tasting notes: This shows a lot of floral notes, such as lilacs and violets, together with aromas of dark fruit, cloves and bark. It has medium body and a soft, polished-tannin structure. Juicy, lingering fruit and firm, fine-grained finish.
Pairing: Ideal for an Appetizer, try utilizing pan-seared onions, cilantro, and spicy parmesan crackers as a base.

An international interest is emerging for Médoc wines. At the Domaine du Prieuré, while the vines conquered the last land devoted to polyculture, the wines entered the Classification of the Intendance of Bordeaux in the category of the third growths of the parishes of Margaux and Cantenac.
Having become the property of the merchant Durand Delains, the Priory was promoted to 4th Grand Cru Classé in the imperial classification of 1855. A century later, after having faced powdery mildew, mildew, phylloxera and then the Great Depression, the Cru is no longer made up of anything but a handful of hectares of vines.
