Vintage: 2019
Origin: Margaux, Bordeaux, France
Description: The younger sibling in the Lascombes family is no junior. Selected from batches that are not earmarked for the Grand Vin, this Second Wine of Château Lascombes has undeniable charm and offers real drinking pleasure.
The estate
Bearing the surname of the knight (chevalier), Antoine de Lascombes, since the 17th century, Château Lascombes is marked by the ten generations of owners who have shaped its history. Since 2011, it has been owned by the mutual insurance group MACSF. The wines at Château Lascombes are recognised as ranking amongst the greatest in the Margaux appellation.
Chevalier de Lascombes is the Second Wine of the estate.
The vineyard
120 hectares in the Margaux appellation make up the vineyard of this Classified Second Growth in 1855. This vineyard is planted on a mosaic of plots where soils are made up, depending on their location, of gravelly hilltops, clayey gravels and clay-limestone plots.
Blend
This 2016 Chevalier de Lascombes is made from a blend of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon
Tasting notes: An expressive nose of red berry fruit and spices. The aromatics promise a wine of lovely concentration on the palate. After a clean entry on the palate, the wine reveals a powerful yet elegant structure. Fruit flavour comes largely to the fore, and the tannins are smooth. The finish is also very fruity and long.
Pairing: A perfect wine to go along with aperitif, as it pairs well with cold cuts and cheeses.
Alcohol content: 14%.
