CHATEAU TALBOT ST-JULIEN, CONNETABLE 2019
Vintage: 2019
Grapes: 64% Merlot, 36% Cabernet Sauvignon
Origin: Saint Julien, Médoc, France
Description:
The estate
A 4th Classified Growth of Saint-Julien, Château Talbot is one of the most iconic references of Haut-Médoc. Acquired by Désiré Cordier in 1918, Château Talbot is today managed by Nancy Bignon-Cordier and her husband, Jean-Paul Bignon.
The vineyard
The Château Talbot vineyard is a real treasure, covering 110 hectares of vines all in one piece, in the heart of the Saint-Julien appellation. These vines, 45 years old on average, enjoy an ideal location on the edge of the Gironde estuary and are planted in ridges of Médoc gravel and alluvial deposits.
The wine
Born in the 1960s, Connétable Talbot is one of the very first second wines of the Médoc. This great Haut-Médoc red wine is made from younger vines but with the same care taken during the selection of fruit and during its vinification than for the estate’s first wine. Following in the footsteps of the first wine, Connétable Talbot from Château Talbot seduces those who love great Médoc wines with its classic style, its combination of elegance and precision, and its nice, fresh length on the palate.
The winemaking
Manual harvest. Successive manual and optical sorting. Vinification in stainless steel tanks.
The blend
Cabernet sauvignon (37%), merlot (63%).
The ageing
15 months in barrels including 15% new oak barrels.
Pairing: An excellent pairing for beef dishes. Also enjoyable with cheeses like mature cheddar, Comté or goat cheese.
